Binscarth Colony Farm

There is a scale model of the Binscarth Colony Farm located in the museum office. The Colony Farm was the original site of Binscarth. The town was moved after the railway came in about 1885.

Some of the original houses continue to stand in Binscarth today.

Beth Naylor Collection Inc.

Beth's clothing collection began in 1936 when she was given a black dress. Piquing her interest, she started to collect and restore clothing. The oldest piece in her collection dates back to 1855. At present, the collection holds over 600 pieces of ladies, mens and childrens's clothing, shoes, and other accessories.

Pieces of the Beth Naylor Collection have been chosen for display throughout the Asessippi Parkland. Presently there are displays at Travel Manitoba Centre, Russell Library, Layh Law Office, Russell Heritage Church in Russell, Binscarth Museum, Inglis Elevators, and RM of Silver Creek in Angusville. Displays are changed regularly to keep them interesting and to preserve the pieces.

Extinct Bison Skull

The museum is one of only a handful of museums to exhibit an extinct bison skull. Dating between 7000-4000 BC, the skull belonged to a now-extinct predecessor of our local species. The prehistoric bison were larger in size and had straighter horns than their modern counterparts. The bones of these ancient bison are particularly numerous along the banks of the Assiniboine River, but to find an entire skull is extremely rare.

A plaque by the museum, on the extinct bison of Manitoba, was erected in 1988 by the Manitoba Heritage Council.
